Movement for health, confidence and connection

MoveWell helps people improve their health and wellbeing through welcoming, accessible movement experiences.

Designed for adults of all ages and abilities, our sessions support mobility, strength, confidence and social connection in safe and supportive community settings.

No dance experience. No fitness experience. Just movement that meets people where they are.

MoveWell is supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.

Developed by White & Givan
MoveWell is created by White & Givan and is informed by our own experiences of injury, recovery and rebuilding confidence through movement. These experiences deepened our understanding of the important connection between physical health, mental wellbeing and social connection. Combined with our professional expertise in movement and community practice, this has shaped an approach that supports people to move more, feel better and connect with others in ways that are welcoming, achievable and enjoyable.

Our work combines:

• Movement expertise
• Community practice
• Health and wellbeing approaches
• Creative facilitation

Together, these elements help us create movement experiences that support both physical and emotional wellbeing.
A different approach to wellbeing
We believe dancers are creative athletes. Their training develops many of the same physical qualities as sport and fitness, strength, mobility, balance and coordination — while also bringing creativity, adaptability and human connection.

Drawing on this expertise, alongside knowledge from health, fitness, sport and rehabilitation, MoveWell supports people to improve mobility, confidence, wellbeing and social connection through welcoming movement experiences.

We recognise that no single discipline has all the answers. That's why we work alongside partners in health, fitness, sport and rehabilitation, ensuring MoveWell draws on current thinking and best practice from across these fields, alongside our expertise in movement and dance.

Through consultation with communities, we have learned that activities described as "creative" or "dance-based" can sometimes feel intimidating. Many people tell us they want to improve their health and wellbeing but do not feel comfortable in traditional fitness environments or creative settings.

That's why creativity is never a requirement for participation. We begin with movement that feels familiar, accessible and useful, helping people improve mobility, strength, balance and confidence. Creativity may be introduced gradually, where appropriate, as a supportive tool that encourages enjoyment, motivation and connection. Participants engage with these elements at their own pace, and some groups may choose not to explore them at all.

Every MoveWell programme is shaped around the needs, interests and comfort levels of participants.

The result is a supportive, community-centred approach to movement that helps people improve their health, reduce isolation and feel more confident in their everyday lives.
What happens in a MoveWell session?
Sessions may include:

• Gentle stretching and mobility
• Strength and movement for joint health
• Balance and coordination exercises
• Low-impact movement for fitness and heart health
• Breathing and relaxation techniques
• Creative movement activities that support confidence and enjoyment
• Opportunities to connect socially with others

Our focus is on helping people feel comfortable in their bodies and confident in their movement, not on performance.
Who is MoveWell for?
